Open Call for "Las Plantas"

The producers of Beneath Contempt are holding an open casting call for the Emerson College short thesis film Las Plantas. Union and Non-Union welcomed. Sides will be provided.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday, August 26 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Emerson College, 150 Boylston Street in Boston.

Latina/Female - Age: 25 - 35
A young woman finishing her medical studies as a nurse, completing her residency.

Due to the long hours spent at her job, she does not have time to foster interpersonal relationships. After her mom sends her a Chia Pet in the mail as "a little friend" she ends up overcompensating for her lack of relationships with a love of plants, transforming her apartment into a jungle of flora.

It is vital that the actress who takes the role has a strong command of Spanish, either a native speaker or completely fluent, and is equally important that she both takes direction well and brings her own ideas to the table as the director looks forward to working closely with the actress to create an emotionally deep, complex, and well rounded character.

Unpaid Extras - 8/17

Mark Huntington needs unpaid, non-union extras for a shoot on Monday, 8/17. 21+ only. The scene takes place in a bar.

Monday, 8/17/09, in Coventry, RI, from approximately 2PM to 6PM.

There will be a break until about 8:30PM. A few more people may be needed for the night shoot, between 9PM and 10:30.

The afternoon shoot is the most important one, so if people can make only that, it is fine.

Extras needed to play a bar crowd watching a televised baseball game. No experience necessary.

2008 Boston International Film Festival

On June 6, 2008, the 6th annual Boston International Film Festival will begin its 9-day international cultural platform of screening feature-length, documentary, short, and student works.

Boston, MA – BIFF announces the 6th Annual Boston International Film Festival, beginning June 6, 2008 and running through June 14, 2008.

The Boston International Film Festival is proud to encourage and support independent filmmakers from around the world. The festival strives to promote international understanding, by bringing a variety of movies to the diverse Boston community. These films will both entertain and educate viewers about the world today. The goal of the festival is to display the passion and unique visions of the filmmakers in an environment that brings all cultures together.

The festival will be screening over 100 short and feature films from 30 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brasil, Canada, Cape Verde, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Haiti, Hongkong, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Russian Federation, Rwanda, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Tibet, UK, Venezuela, and USA.

Casting Independent Short

Joe Fowler is casting an upcoming, independent short film. He is
seeking two highly qualified actors with a strong acting resume.

One role is for a male, and one for a female, for actors between 50
and 80 years old.

The film adapts one script into different environments, resulting in
three different resolutions.

Marvin Gaye Biopic to Film in Boston

The Marvin Gaye biopic Sexual Healing will begin filming scenes in Boston by the middle of April.

The Soprano's James Gandolfini co-stars as Gaye's agent, while Marvin himself is played by Jesse L. Martin, of Law and Order and Rent fame.

The long-awaited indie film will tell the tale of the soul singer's last years, from his departure from Motown to his time in Europe.

Steven Turner’s book Trouble Man is the basis for Lauren Goodman's screenplay.
Gandolfini’s company, Attaboy Films, will produce the film.

Casting Man & Woman in Short Film

Joseph Fowler is currently casting two actors in a short student film, scheduled to shoot within the third week of February 2008.

This is an unpaid, non-union job. The actors will receive a performance DVD, as well as experiential credit to add to their resumes. They will also be credited in any film festivals to which the picture is submitted.

Role 1: A male actor, heavy-set, preferably with a beard, between the ages of 45- and 70-years old, to play a character who is working class, somewhat uncivilized, and has a great sense of humor.

Role 2: A Female actor, thin, between the ages of 55- and 85-years old, to play a character who is tired, aged, mature, and deeply saddened--the survivor of a natural disaster.

Casting Non-Union for "Mind the Gap"

Kwill Productions is casting non-union actors in the award winning screenplay Mind the Gap, a Boston University Graduate Film Production. Mind the Gap is a short film that follows 16 year old Sarah as she deals with working class life and her dad's job.

Casting the following characters:

• Sarah Sullivan: age range: 14-16years old. Sarah has a somewhat cynical view of life. She is not a cheerleader type.
• Harold Sullivan: age range: 45-55years old. Harold has worked as a train conductor for 25 years. This shows on his face.
• June Sullivan: age range: 45-55 years old. June is a mother who supports her husband and daughter the best way she can, by cooking and cleaning.

Bostonian accents welcomed, but not required. Ethnicity is currently open for all roles.

Shooting will take place in late February and March.

Compensation: $50 p/d, meals, copy of film, transportation
